Be Still My Soul

Instrumental Worship II continued the journey begun on the first volume, again placing Terry MacAlmon's piano at the center of an atmosphere created for prayer, reflection and worship. Rather than simply repeating the first album, this second collection leans even further into flowing medleys in which hymns, worship songs and Terry's own music move naturally into one another.

The album opens with Forever O Lord and then turns toward the stillness of Be Still My Soul. From there, original songs such as Draw From My Well and I Want to Go to Zion are woven together with well-known expressions of worship including Glory to the Lamb, To Him Who Sits on the Throne, Salvation Belongs to Our God and Jesus Paid It All. The result is not a showcase of individual songs so much as a continuous journey of worship led from the piano.

That was the heart behind these early instrumental projects. Terry wanted the music to serve people in their own time with God. It could be played during prayer, Scripture reading, work or a quiet evening at home. The arrangements were never meant to pull attention toward the musician. They were meant to create room for the listener to draw near to the Lord.

Instrumental Worship II also shows how naturally Terry moves between old and new. Historic hymns, contemporary worship and original material belong together because the focus is not on style or generation, but on the One being worshiped. That same conviction would later shape his live recordings, orchestral projects and NightSounds albums. Here it is heard in a simple form: piano, melody, worship and space to be still before God.
