Instrumental Worship I

Before the large live gatherings and the recordings that would carry Terry MacAlmon's music around the world, there was the piano. Instrumental Worship I captures that quieter side of his calling. Built around piano and orchestral arrangements, the album was created as music for personal worship - something that could fill a home, an office or a time of prayer without demanding the attention of a concert performance.

The song selection already contains many of the elements that would become familiar in Terry's ministry. Hymns sit beside worship songs, medleys and his own compositions. I Sing Praises appears here in an instrumental setting, allowing the melody to speak without a congregation or lead vocal. Other tracks flow from one song into another, creating extended moments rather than a collection of isolated performances.

That approach is important to the story of this album. Terry has always seen worship as more than singing through a set list. Music can create space to become still, to pray and to turn the heart toward God. Instrumental Worship I was designed for exactly that purpose. There is no crowd to respond to, no spoken introduction and no need for applause. The piano carries the worship, supported by gentle orchestration and familiar melodies.

Years later Terry would become widely known for powerful live worship recordings, but this album reveals a foundation that never disappeared: intimacy, melody and a desire to help people enter the presence of God.
