It was D. L. Moody who once brilliantly stated, "The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to him. By God's help, I aim to be that man.” While I am only partially familiar with the mark on the church world left by Mr. Moody, I am quite familiar with the late Charlie Kirk, Christian apologist. I am not going to bring politics into this conversation, even though it was a strong part of who Charlie was when a deranged young assassin’s bullet sadly and quickly ended Charlie’s life. I am focusing on exactly what Moody was talking about; a man fully consecrated to God. To even the most casual follower of Charlie, one cannot deny that his entire life was centered around and driven by his relationship with Jesus Christ. He truly was, in my opinion, a modern day Apostle Paul, with a little bit of Stephen the martyr mixed in….a truly exceptional soldier of the cross.
At the writing of this, we are only one week removed from that horrible day when Charlie was killed with a bullet to his neck. There is always a risk of journaling about current events because in a few weeks they may not be news worthy any longer. Not this time, not with this guy. How do I know this? Because Charlie Kirk was completely and joyfully sold out to Christ. In the past week over 3000 new applications for Turning Point (Charlie’s organization) chapters have been requested from high school and college campuses around the country. On top of that, many millions of followers have added Charlie’s organization to their social media accounts. Jesus marches with 10s of thousands have already sprung up in places like Phoenix, Dallas, New York, Boston, London and Berlin….in just 7 days! His death has sparked a brand new zeal for young people to proclaim the truth of the gospel and I’m fairly certain this is NOT going away anytime soon…maybe until Jesus returns for His bride!
Now of course there are critics. I already have received some negative feedback from folks regarding their dislike if not disdain for Charlie Kirk. “How could you promote a man who is such a racist?” “He’s full of hate!” "He’s a white supremacist!” Ok, except, HE’S NOT ANY OF THOSE THINGS! To those who are reading this and of that mindset, I encourage you to actually listen with an open mind to what Charlie said, regarding any subject or hot button in today’s world. If you’re a true follower of Christ you will change your mind. How do I know this? Because Charlie Kirk based every single philosophy, thought, view point and action on Truth…the truth of Jesus. That’s what is so wonderfully refreshing about this 31 year old incredibly intelligent warrior (he read 100 books a year). He had one agenda above all else….to see young people commit their lives to following Jesus. He knew if they did that everything else would fall into place, as it did in his own life. I believe this is why we’re seeing the masses display their unity and energy for everything Charlie stood for because he stood for Truth…a precious and rare commodity for the most part unknown on college campuses, Washington D.C and many churches around our land if not the entire world. When one stands for Truth, it causes serious conflict because of how much deception Satan has brought into the world - especially in the past 30 years with the arrival of the internet in every home. It’s a pandemic that is out of control. One thing that Spencer Cox, governor of Utah recently said that struck a chord with me was this: "Social Media is a cancer in our society right now". Truth! We need to turn off the slanted media around us and get back to basics…God’s word and fellowship with God’s people. I have zero doubt that Charlie Kirk’s assassin was greatly influenced by evil minded people sitting behind keyboards for hours every day, or in video game chat rooms with unseen “friends” throwing out hate speech and evil ideas. This is a tool of the enemy whose power cannot be measured. We’re destroying ourselves from within; we can do better than this.
Revival needs to happen. I believe it’s coming on the heels of one man who was fully consecrated to God, even to the point of losing his life for the sake of the gospel. Guaranteed - he would gladly exchange his life for what is taking place now and will continue for a long, long time if I have any prophetic insight at all. Christian martyrdom has always sparked revival. Satan has once again overplayed his hand and his kingdom will lose perhaps millions because of Charlie’s example and testimony. What the enemy meant for evil, God will indeed use for good. That’s our King!
So I thank God for the example of Charles James Kirk, Christian apologist and world changer, and I pray that a thousand more like him take the baton and consecrate themselves to win an entire generation for Jesus. Hey, it's the last days….Let’s Go!
